Volunteer

Dogs On the Go accomplishes it’s mission primarily with volunteers. We cannot succeed without the dedication of people who selflessly give of their time and talents to transform the lives of both dogs and people. Be a part of our fun community!

Respite Dog Care Volunteer

  • Assist with short term (anywhere from 1 day to 6 weeks) dog care for one of our superheroes in training.

  • These respite care needs arise out of a variety of situations, such as:

1) The trainee dog’s foster parent will be on vacation or out of town.

2) The trainee dog has an injury and requires a quiet place to heal without any rowdy canine foster siblings.

3) The trainee dog’s foster parent has an emergency.

  • Dog food and any needed medical care provided, including any needed medications (e.g., monthly heart worm prevention.)

  • This position requires that you own your home and have homeowners insurance that covers dogs on your property.

  • This position does NOT require that you have a fenced in yard as long as you are willing to walk the dog and understand that dogs in training may or may not be housebroken.

  • If you do not already have an appropriately sized dog crate, you may use one from the program for the length of the dog’s stay.

Fundraiser Support Volunteer

  • Fundraisers require many talents and hands. Without them, our program cannot exist.

  • Whether you enjoy rallying your friends to support your favorite causes, planning and organizing events, running silent auctions, or designing flyers, you can make a huge difference by supporting Dogs On the Go fundraisers.

  • Help spread word about the 2021 virtual McHenry Country Human Race.

  • Help plan our fabulous second annual golf outing.

  • If you are reading this and thinking, “I hate asking people for money” - we still need you and your other skills to make our fundraisers a success!
